Award Winning Club - Portarlington Golf Club

At a gala event on October 17 at the RACV City Club, Community Clubs Association of Victoria (CCAV), presented their 2012 Annual Awards to Victorian clubs, in recognition of the contributions to their members and local communities.

In presenting the awards, CCAV’s President Leon Wiegard, OAM, said “Victorian clubs perform a valuable and unique role in our community. The general public are probably unaware of the extent to which local clubs support their members and local neighbourhoods through a broad range of facilities, resources and donations.”

Portarlington Golf Club took away two prestigious awards.

Club President of the Year - Tony Meagher, and Regional Club Chef of the Year Award which was jointly won by Chris Vakidis - Portarlington Golf Club & Steve Collins - Kilmore Racing Club.

President of the Year is a prestigious award to a President who over the past year, has volunteered many hours supporting the club and committee and provided the club with strong leadership. The judging panel noted Tony has demonstrated a strategic approach to the clubs sustainability.

Regional Club Chef of the Year award recognises chefs that provide the clubs members and guests with an outstanding food and beverage offering. The judging panel commented on both chefs achievements in making their clubs sought after destinations for members and guests. Given both chefs ability to deliver a good value offering with honest fresh produce, the judges felt they could not be separated.

CCAV is a peak body representing the interests of these community clubs from small volunteer-based sporting clubs through to very large clubs with multi-million dollar turnovers.

CCAV members have one overriding thing in common; they are not-for-profit entities that provide facilities, support and entertainment for their members and broader communities.
