Students from Drysdale Christian College recently visited our Club. Here’s what the teacher had to say:
Students from Christian college, Bellarine Campus in Drysdale visited the Portarlington Golf Club over three occasions .The Year 7 students selected an elective ‘Maths Challenged’ as part of their semester one studies. The elective aims to provide opportunity to apply math skills in real life scenarios. Their task in this unit was to design three golf holes. The task included mathematical concepts and skills which needed to be included in their design. To immerse students into the world of golf, they participated in two golf lessons with the club pro Matt and played some holes of golf with Matt, Angela Foott and David Robjohns, a club member.
As the class teacher I couldn’t have asked for more. When I approached the club to canvased the idea Angela and Matt were very helpful and supportive. Matt was highly organised for the student visits and quickly developed a positive rapport with them. Angela and David volunteered their time to help put our lessons into practise. The students enjoyed three afternoons at Portarlington Golf course. The course itself was beautiful and the students were very interested in the design of the course.
To work in partnership with a local community organisation has enriched our studies and provided a wonderful opportunity to link our learning to real life. On behalf our Christian College I would sincerely thank The Portarlington Golf Club for their efforts in working with us. Jenny Wade Teacher
