Mygolf - for A Great Way for Juniors to Get into Golf
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer holidays. Best wishes to everyone for the 2018 school year.
Now that school has returned so has our MyGolf Saturday morning junior program at Portarlington Golf Club. 2017 was a positive year for our MyGolf program, we saw an increase in class size and demand. As a result of this, In 2018 we will see some changes to the program here at Portarlington GC.
Due to the demand on class size and diversity of age I have created an additional class on Saturday mornings. The classes I have structured are as follows:
MyGolf ROOKIE Program > 5-8 year old > 9am - 9.45am AND 
MyGolf STAR Program > 9-12 year old > 10am-11am
Both MyGolf programs will commence Saturday 10th of February & run for 7 consecutive Saturdays concluding just before the Easter school holidays on Saturday the 24th of March.
The Rookie Program (5-8) will commence @ 9am, running for 45 minutes. I have shortened the duration of this age bracket by 15 minutes to assist with the overall focus of the class.
The Star program (9-12) will commence @ 10am, running for 1 hour in during. This program will act as a pathway for those progressing from our Rookie program, Offering more challenging and diverse skill acquisition.
The separation of classes will give me the opportunity to better organise and coordinate the overall program. I will be able set specific drills for the participants ages and skill set. For more information and to register for our MyGolf programs here at Portarlington GC visit: www.mygolf.org.au

JUNIOR PENNANT 2018
Sunday 11th Feb our final round at Barwon Valley Golf Course – course in good nick, no Portarlington, but then again not many are!
Today we have Hannah Mawson making her debut at number. Hannah is not only making her pennant debut but it’s her first time in competition golf, having only played rounds to secure her handicap & a few holes with Dad!
We were very competitive and went down 3.5 to 1.5. Sophie Hood, (“Look out she’s back!” said Max), won 6 &5; Captain Jack Martin squared his match in one of the best pennant games I have witnessed – playing a scratch marker, Jack was 3 down with 5 to play & came back to level it. Max Edmanson & Nick Unsworth lost 2 & 1 after both leading at various stages. Now Hannah was defeated 5 & 3 but played sensationally and for most of her match she was only 1 down – outstanding effort! Next Year Hannah & Max…..
Jamie Schreuder caddied for Jack and Max Mawson was with Max E – They were a part of it. So we felt OK with ourselves, and headed in for lunch together, as a real team does!
Pennant Report - Sunday 28th Jan with Steve Cogger
Round 3 – Junior Pennant versus Curlewis was cancelled due to extreme heat as aligned wit SWGA Heat Policy & an excellent decision.
Our final round will be on Sunday 11th Feb versus Barwon Valley at Barwon Valley – we expect big things!
Reminder – Our first Junior Open Tournament is scheduled for Friday 6th April 2018 – it includes a 9 hole Cadet series (for 14 years & under) suitable for high handicaps & non handicaps. CHECK WEBSITE

Pennant Report - Sunday January 21st with Steve Cogger
6.15am & 23.5 degrees on a balmy Sunday morning & we are on our way to Barwon Heads for round 2 of Junior Pennant. As usual we are full of confidence & expectations.
7.26am tee off and we are grouped and ready – on time & looking splendid in our new uniforms. Unfortunately that’s where our day peaked!
We were beaten 5 – 0 by a very competent and precise Barwon Heads team. We played well and tried our hardest but giving away shots and facing an aggressive unit proved too much for us.
We have already commenced our preparation for next weeks home game against Curlewis – 9.30am Tee Off.
Thank you to all the volunteers and parents/Grandparents for you support – we really do appreciate it.
