BUILDING WORKS STAGE 2
Members, I have held back this edition of Chip Shots until I could give you some concrete details in regards to our stage 2 building works. We had hoped to be further advanced with our building program but hopefully the wait will be worth it. We will then have another new asset for the Portarlington Golf Club, with a space capable of holding 180 people. This will allow us more scope to increase the Club’s non-golf revenues. As referred to in the last Chip Shots, we have finalized the preliminary works, which will hopefully speed up the build. Special thanks to Ron Stockdale and Leigh Wilson on their efforts.
Tenders have been evaluated and we are pleased to announce that we have appointed BDH Constructions . The first stage of works will be relocating the TAB, relocation of administration and completion of the main bistro area prior to Christmas. This will provide extra seating for our members and guests during our busy summer holiday period. The new western wing overlooking the course will begin works in conjunction with the relocation of the TAB and administration areas. We will bring you regular updates to keep you abreast of the construction progress.
To complement the new areas within the clubhouse, a special committee has been formed to maintain the Club’s history throughout the building process. The committee will be responsible for a new design of the Honour Boards which will feature in reception, as well as an interactive kiosk which will be available to our members and visitors to access the Club’s history at any time.
COURSE MASTERPLAN
To assist in our planning for the future, the Board went through a tender process for the first stage of a new course master plan. The tenders were evaluated by Course Superintendent, Steve Burchett and Club Professional, Matt Milne to guide the Board. The successful tender was submitted by Crafter Mogford, Golf Course Architects, who will look at all of the Club’s needs for golf in the future and also allow for any future non-golf developments on site.
Crafter Mogford plan to include the membership in their planning by conducting meetings with the Club members to establish what are the members wishes for the Club’s future development. We would encourage members to avail themselves of these opportunities and have a say in your Club’s future.
