On behalf of the Committee and myself I would like to wish all Members a Happy and safe New Year and good golfing. Congratulations to Anthony Swain who won the January monthly medal.
The Committee has been working with numerous Members who have come up with suggestions in an attempt to improve how the course is set up. We are currently looking at solutions to these issues.
One of the suggestions was the free relief area up the right hand side of the 10th hole. The Committee and myself, along with Gary Thompson met with the Dennis Wood at the 10th to discuss the issue.
All consented that the current position of the blue markers gave a player far too much of an advantage for a poor shot. All agreed that the blue makers should be repositioned so that a poor shot is not rewarded.
In the mean time I will put drawings around the club, Pro Shop and on the notice board to show the proximity of the new marks. I will also paint blue markings on the ground to show how it will look when implemented.
Out of Bounds was also discussed down the right hand side of the10th hole adjacent to the practice chipping green and practice nets. Again all agreed that this should be applied.
Again I will put a few white markings down so that Members will get some idea of the new OOB. And notification will be sent out prior to implementation.
One other suggestion we have received was to run one Competition from two different tees for the Men. The Committee agrees that this is a great idea and would like some feedback from Members who would be interested in playing from different tees, i.e. Red, Blue or yellow.
A notice will go up in the next few days asking for interested Members. I have spoken to Matt and there is no issue with implementing the two tee option. So your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I mentioned in my last report that signs will be installed on the 11th tee area to discourage Members from hitting down the 9th hole. The signs have been made and are up and ready for installation soon.
I would also like to reiterate that the rakes are to be left in the middle of the bunkers running the same direction as the fairway. Consideration in this assists all golfers, thank you.
If any Members are interested there is a match play event being held all across the Country with the finals being played at Cape Schanck .
The event is open to all, and if you are interested go to www.matchplaygolf.com.au.
The Clifton Springs Annual Open will be held on the 19th to the 23rd of February if any Members are interested, go the their web page or ring the Clifton Springs Pro Shop for more details.
On the 30th of January the new World Handicap system takes effect. Members may have noticed posters on the notice board. This explains the changes. Further information is available by sending an email to rules&handicapping@golf.org.au
I will be putting out further reports on the course after the Maintenance and Development Meeting on Thursday.
