Dear Members

The World Handicapping System is now up and running the Golf Committee is now looking at trialing competitions being played from different tees, markers i.e. Tuesday and Saturdays having the option of playing from the Black, Blue or Red tees. Ratings are currently in progress so that each tee markers will have ratings for both Men and Ladies.

Competitions like this are played all over the world, and some Australian Clubs have been doing this for many years. The purpose of this is to encourage our older players to continue playing and be competitive despite loss of distance. Along with promoting our younger member’s just starting to play competitions.

The Committee would like to explore this idea and feels that some members would enjoy a shorter course therefore making it a more enjoyable experience.

Each of our tee marker colours has its own scratch and slope rating which adjusts your handicap according to the difficulty of the tee marker location. The difference in the scratch rating and par of the course as well as the slope rating will give a player their daily handicap that gives them a reasonable chance of playing to the scratch rating.

When a golfer selects a different tee marker to play from the WHS will make this type of competition more equitable in the final competition score.

Therefore the Committee will set a few trial competitions during the next month or so to see what kind of response we receive, and how it affects the field.

The MiClub golf software is capable of these type of events. There may be a change to the registration process for this type of event so please be patient during this period.

These type of events will be open to both Men and Ladies. Trial dates will be announced as soon as possible watch this space.

Below are examples of how the slope ratings work and what handicaps you would be playing off depending on what tees you choose.

Men’s Black Tees

Players GA Handicap 15.2, slope is 127 Scratch Rating 72, Par 72.

Apply Slope to GA Handicap: 15.2 x (127/113)= 17.08

+or – the difference between SCR Rating and Par: 17.08 + (72-72) =0 =17.08

Apply the 0.93 Multiplier: 17.08 X 0.93 = 15.89

Then round the result to get the daily handicap. 16

Men’s Blue Tees

Players GA Handicap 15.2, slope is 120 Scratch Rating 70 Par 72

Apply Slope to GA Handicap: 15.2 x (120/113)= 16.14

+or – the difference between SCR Rating and Par: 16.14 + (70-72) = -2 =14.14

Apply the 0.93 Multiplier: 14.14 X 0.93 = 13.15

Then round the result to get the daily handicap. 13

Men’s Red Tees

Players GA Handicap 15.2, slope is 119 Scratch Rating 68, Par 72.

Apply Slope to GA Handicap: 15.2 x (119/113) = 16.0

+or – the difference between SCR Rating and Par: 16.0 + (68-72) = - 4 =12

Apply the Multiplier: 12×0.93 = 11.16 = 11

Then round the result to get the daily handicap. 11

Women’s Red Tees

GA Handicap 15.2, slope is 127 Scratch Rating 74 Par 74

Apply Slope to GA Handicap 15.2 x (119/113) = 16.0

+ or – the difference between SCR Rating and Par 16.0 + (74-74) = 0 = 16.0

Apply the Multiplier 16.0 x 0.93 = 14.88

Then Round the result to get the daily handicap. 15.

Women’s Yellow Tees

GA Handicap 15.2, slope is 122 Scratch Rating 72 Par 73

Apply Slope to GA Handicap 15.2 x (122/113) = 16.41

+ or – the difference between SCR Rating and Par 16.41+(72-73)=-1= 15.41

Apply the Multiplier 15.41 x 0.93 = 14.33

Then Round the result to get the daily handicap. 14.
