Captains Report March 2020
Ladies and Gents, as we all sit at home pondering when our next game of golf will be it might be a good time to check up on the Rules. I am looking at getting a quiz together on the rules so watch this space.
In my February report I included the rule of the Month and I am wondering how many members actually took the time to find the answer. The answer is False.
Explanation
If a ball is found within the 3 minutes of the player or caddie starting to search for it the player is allowed a reasonable time to identify the ball, even if that happens after the three-minute search has ended.
At our March meeting we discussed Division of grades, as members will note we changed the handicaps so the four grades are as equal as possible. This is working well and we will review when we have more data with the grades as they are at the moment.
The Committee also discussed the fixture going forward and how we can inject some new novelty games. From the feed back we received the two person Ambrose held on Tuesday 26th February it was largely a success.
So in the new fixture we will include a two person Ambrose and remove a multiplier as this seems to be not very popular with our Male members. One thing I would like to mention, I will complete the men’s knockout match play event and it will be ready to go as soon as we can get back to golf. Plus we will be trialing the two tee option as mentioned in my last report.
At the end of February Portarlington entered a team in the Neville Drayton Cup, this is a district event and is for Committee members and or volunteers of the Club. The team was Cameron Place, Bob Thompson and Malcolm Fisher, although we did not win the team did not finish last so it was a good effort by them all.
In concluding to all our members, I would like to say please keep safe and well follow the rules and we should all come out of this mess in good health and ready to play golf again.
See you all on the other side.
Captain Al and the Committee.
