C.E.O. UPDATE

The second lockdown of the Clubhouse on Thursday 6th August 2020 has inflicted more pain on regional businesses in Victoria, and in particular the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. This lockdown has forced our Club to make further changes in relation to cost savings across all areas of the Clubs operations. The recent Covid 19 infections has decreased significantly and we should see the re-opening of the clubhouse and the return of golf competitions in mid-September, but this is industry speculation only.

Gaming activities are our largest income earner and have been closed since 23rd March 2020. The closure has cost the club significantly to this point and the State Government has not made any commitment to the re commencement of this activity.

Golfing activity has been the strongest in years with new members and very high levels of green fee players. With no AFL, and no overseas and interstate travel the demand for tee times has been very high, but this is a very different period, and I hope that members appreciate the difficulty in managing these unprecedented times.

The new Clubhouse extensions are completed but again the Covid 19 restrictions have prevented us organising an official opening. As soon as restrictions are lifted to a point where we can have 100 plus people in the club, we will let you know when this will take place. The new facilities are magnificent, and we hope that we can get back to normal so all our Members can enjoy your new clubhouse.

The 2019-20 Annual Report has been completed and is now available on the website. Hard copies are available if required. Please contact the club to arrange to pick one up.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Building Committee who were responsible for overseeing and managing our recent building renovations and development. The committee brought the project in on time and within budget. Further, as the project evolved they also implemented several initiatives that saved the club considerable costs and these actions ensured that we remained on budget.

At the August meeting of the Board of Directors, Bill Reid Jnr was appointed to take the position vacated by Leigh Wilson, for the balance of Leigh’s tenure following his resignation from the Board. Bill brings considerable experience at executive level from his business life in the engineering sector.

SHOT OF THE DAY

On Wednesday, Donna Utt watched her playing partner Norma Vogel play what she considered to be the shot of the day. On the 17th Norma’s drive was low (thinking it would go into the water), BUT it hit a yellow hazard peg, shot up into the air, over the fence and landed on the 2nd tee in front of Liz Brown and Jeanette Johnson. They were looking for a ball in the water near the bridge crossing which had been hooked by a young man from the 3rd tee. Liz and Jeanette wondered what they had done to be targeted from the front and side at the same time!
