More about the Carnival of Golf
"The Portarlington Golf Club's Carnival of Golf has developed a reputation over its 12 years as being the biggest and most professionally organised event for club golfers in this part of Victoria. It has been appropriately described as the golfing experience one must encounter through participating in this fabulous carnival.
Portarlington's Carnival of Golf in September is the Mecca for all club golfers, and has a program to suit all club golfers, men & ladies alike, with events arranged to cater for players who wish to stay for the whole carnival, visit for a few days or for those who only wish to travel for the one event. It also caters for those who wish to test their skills as individuals, wish to play with a partner, or wish to play with a partner of the opposite sex and also for those players who wish to form a team. Furthermore, it provides social activities nightly that provides a break from the golf, wine tasting, free KFC breakfast, bingo, cocktail party and a first class cabaret show.
The carnival starts with a 36 hole open championship for men on Saturday, 30 August, followed by a Mixed 4BBB on the Sunday, Monday has the popular Men's 18hole Stableford event, Tuesday is the prestigious Bellarine Veterans Classic hosted by the Geelong & District Veteran's Association, Wednesday programs two events, a Mens & Ladies Mixed Ambrose Pairs, Thursday caters for the veteran men, with a 18 hole stableford championship and for the ladies with a 4BBB stableford tournament, Friday is ladies day, a 27 hole open championship is played concurrently with an 18 hole stroke event, whereas Saturday provides 18 hole stableford tournaments for both Men & Ladies and finally the carnival concludes with a Mixed Canadian Foursomes tournament.
The golf carnival is an experience that no golfer should miss and to enhance the events reputation, the Club last year upgraded the last of its fairways with santa-anna grass to make the Portarlington golf course one of the most enjoyable courses to play in the Geelong region.
